Wales

CCE is working with the Arts Council of Wales and the Welsh Government on the design, development and implementation of a new national schools initiative that will embed the arts and creativity into the curriculum with a view to driving up educational attainment levels and tackling the effects of deprivation on learners. The Lead Creative Schools Scheme works with schools to support them to address their individual development needs. It provides them with professional creative practitioners, new skills and resources which together support improvements in the quality of teaching and learning.

The Lead Creative Schools Scheme is a key part of Creative learning through the arts – an action plan for Wales which is a partnership between Welsh Government and Arts Council of Wales. The plan aims to put creativity and the arts at the heart of learning and over a five year period the Welsh Government will invest £10 million and the Arts Council £10 million of Lottery funds.

CCE’s role in supporting the Lead Creative Schools Scheme has included developing the handbook for schools, its planning and evaluation framework and quality assurance programme alongside designing and implementing an extensive national professional development and learning programme for teachers, school leaders and creative professionals involved. Feedback on the learning programme has been very positive – below is feedback from some of the participants:
